St-Henri residents are upset over the way a condo construction site has taken over their street for the past month for work that won't be ending anytime soon.
"Now as of a few weeks, it's been a complete parking lot," said Jill Samborsky who is talking about construction workers' cars and trucks double-parked in front of their homes on Sainte-Marguerite, plus a crane and a dumpster in the area near St. Jacques and Charlebois, essentially blocking off their street.
"The garbage, recycling and compost has not been picked up for three weeks. Number two, there's no parking," said Samborsky in an interview with CJAD 800 News.
"It's a huge hazard because if there were to be an emergency situation when an ambulance or firetruck needs to get through, there's no way that they could."
After repeated calls to police and the borough and being bounced back and forth with contradictory information, Samborsky said residents are being told the company has a permit to occupy the street.
But the borough now says it'll revise the permit for improved access plus get the contractor to provide a garbage drop-off point.
Samborsky said she'll see what they mean by these measures but wishes they'd been consulted and notified about the permit and its consequences from the start.
"The communication has been really poor," said Samborsky.
"I don't really understand why it's so difficult to allow the residents who live on the street to have access to their homes."
