Just days after the Quebec government announced a huge budget surplus and a significant reinvestment in health care, there could be staff cuts coming to the MUHC.
The one-year-old hospital in NDG is going to have to find $28 million to cover things like cost overruns which happened during the initial move to the hospital in June of last year.
The staff cuts aren't a done deal as yet — but the MUHC is indicating that they're looking for ways to increase efficiency in order to cover the shortfall, and that cutting staff is one possibility.
The hospital's management is due to hold meetings next week with its unions on the matter.
One source told CTV News that on the surgical-oncology-gynecology floor, 1.5 nursing positions might end up being lost — or five 12-hour shifts.
