A new provincial prison in Sept-Îles will have facilities that will make it appear more like a hotel rather than a dentention centre.
Many inmates will have their own private room, and common areas are equipped with plasma televisions as well as individual headphones. Most will even get their own hygiene kit upon arrival, which includes a toothbrush and toothpaste, soap and shampoo. Top of the line washers and dryers as well as dishwashers that rival many restaurants will also be at the disposal of inmates.
The facility was inaugurated Wednesday, and construction was about a year behind schedule
According to the Journal de Montreal, the facility costs just under $91 million. It will house around 55 inmates and opens this spring.
