A 31-year-old man has been arrested after stealing a STM bus Saturday afternoon while believed to be intoxicated and going on a short drive, police say.
The driver had parked the bus at Joliette metro around 12:15 p.m. and left to make a pit stop, according to Montreal police Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant.
When he returned someone else was in the driver seat and, after a short verbal exchange, the man made his getaway, Brabant explained—but he didn't get far.
"He headed west on Hochelaga [St.], he told CJAD 800 News. "There were some 911 calls that were placed, officers were close [by] and they were able to pull over the bus."
The driver stopped outside Prefontaine Metro, he continued, where he was arrested and taken into custody.
No one was in the bus besides the alleged thief, according to Brabant, and no one was injured.
Officers at the scene strongly suspected the man was drunk, Brabant added, but a blood-alcohol test will confirm.
The is expected to face charges including vehicle theft and theft over $5,000.
