330 school bus drivers will be on strike Tuesday and Wednesday after talks broke down between their union and the Transco bus company.
The company provides bus service to 4 boards, the English Montreal School Board, Lester B. Pearson School Board, Marguerite-Bourgeoys and Commission scolaire de Montreal, as well as College Ste. Anne in Lachine.
As many as 15 thousand students could be affected, but the boards also have contracts with other bus companies, so not all bus routes are impacted.
All schools will be open, but board officials have said students who are late to class will not be penalized.
Union members have been without a contract since June.
Drivers are asking for a two percent annual pay increase.
Transco is offering a five year contract with no increase in the first 2 years, followed by three years of pay increases at half the rate of inflation.
