Two of the victims of the fatal car crash on Highway 440 in Laval were former Montreal police officers.
Mayor Valerie Plante confirmed the victims’ identities on social media Thursday afternoon, tweeting her condolences to the retired officers’ families.
Reports say Gilles Marsolais, 54, and Michèle Bernier, 48 were a couple with children. They were each on the force for more than a quarter-century.
Yesterday, another of the four victims who lost their lives was identified by a Quebec coroner as 26-year-old Robert Tanguay-Laplante.
Monday's multi-vehicle pileup on the 440 between Highway 15 and Industrial Blvd. also left more than a dozen people injured, and prompted Quebec's transport minister François Bonnardel to say he would order changes to the highway markings, so the painted line that prohibited drivers from changing lanes before the exit was extended.
