One man was arrested following a lengthy, but not so high speed, police chase overnight.
At about 1:00 A.M. on Highway 40 in Vaudreuil-Dorion, provincial police officers tried to pull over a pickup truck that had been reported stolen. The driver did not stop, leading police on a chase that would eventually take them off the Highway, through side streets and along Gouin Blvd. in Ahuntsic-Cartierville.
The driver of the pickup then drove onto the train tracks and across the Bordeaux Railway Bridge before ultimately abandoning the pickup, and the attached water tank trailer, near Cartier and Concorde Sts. in Laval.
Officers, not wanting to risk driving a police cruiser across the train bridge, pursued on foot and later found the empty vehicle. The K-9 unit was called to help track down the driver, but so far the search has not been successful.
One man was arrested earlier in the chase. According to police he was driving alongside the stolen pickup in a manner that leads officers to believe he was involved.
