New details have emerged about how a young man was seriously injured in Dorval on Sunday morning after being struck by a slow-moving train along Cardinal Avenue, not far from the Dorval Circle.
Montreal police first thought the 16-year-old was trying to board a train, but surveillance video reviewed by investigators on Sunday morning indicates that he was already on board a train and was jumping off when he was struck by a second locomotive on the adjacent tracks.
Police had been considering a number of different scenarios including whether the accident was the result of some kind of "game."
The conductor of the train that struck the young man stopped his locomotive immediately and called for help. The teen is now in serious condition in hospital with head trauma as police continue their investigation.
On Sunday afternoon, Police constable Jean-Pierre Brabant told CJAD800 that the teen's condition was looking up.
"He is now stable at the hospital and we don't fear for his life," he said.
The teen's identity has not been released, but sources told CJAD800 that he is a resident of the City of Dorval.
The young men is currently resting in hospital and investigators hope to speak with him on Monday to determine why he was on the train in the first place.
