The police independent investigations bureau (Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes-BEI) has launched an inquiry into the police shooting death of a young man in Brome Lake early Wednesday morning.
In a mid-morning statement the BEI confirmed that the suspect was a minor who was alleged to have been carrying a handgun.
In a statement the BEI says the incident began at around 1:20 a.m. when police began receiving 9-1-1 calls about a man with a gun walking on a street.

The BEI says the Sûreté du Québec police officers who responded to the call tried to negotiate with the man using a loudspeaker, but at some point they felt threatened by the man and shot him.
No other details are being made public.
Montreal police investigators have been asked to help in the investigation.
