A 63-year-old Verdun man appeared in court over the weekend, charged with making death threats against mayor Valérie Plante.
Claude Meilleur is facing the charge for an email that was sent to the mayor's office last week, following the release of last week's municipal budget.
La Presse reported Tuesday morning that he was upset that the metro wasn't free.
Montreal police suggest the nature of the threat was clear enough for an investigation to be launched.
Meilleur spent a few days in jail before being released, with conditions, until his next court appearance on March 5.
Meilleur has reportedly been in trouble with the law before — back in 2010, he spent a week in jail after pleading guilty to theft.
