There is just one weekend left for the candidates in the St. Laurent federal byelection to campaign, ahead of Monday's vote.
The 5 candidates squared off in front of students and staff at Vanier College Wednesday.
2 of the 5 are newcomers to politics.
Mathieu Auclair is running for the NDP. He tells CTV Montreal there are many young families in the riding that need to be represented in parliament.
Jimmy Yu is representing the Conservatives, William Fayad is with the Bloc Quebecois and Daniel Green is with the Green Party.
The riding is considered a Liberal stronghold.
Liberal candidate, Emmanuella Lambropoulos, was asked why long-time St. Laurent Mayor Alan de Souza wasn't allowed to run for the party.
“For me, it was a very open process. I was given the same opportunity that the other candidates were given and that's literally all that I know,” she said.
The byelection will be held April 3.
