A Concordia Stingers quarterback is sounding the alarm over the dangers of head to head collisions and the risks of concussions after he was on the receiving end of such a hit in a game last Sunday.
Trenton Miller posted a video to his FB page showing him catching the ball and then getting smashed in the head and knocked to the ground by a player from the Université Laval's Rouge et Or.
Miller said he wants an end to what he describes as "nonsensical head to head collisions."
Miller said he understands the game is inherently violent and they can't eliminate all head injuries but that everyone - from sports organizations to coaches and referees - must do their part to avoid the majority of them.
"The head to head hits like the one I received Sunday and the hits that some of my teammates received on Sunday have no place in the game of football," said Miller in his video.
"They're not in the line with the spirit of the game and frankly they should just never happen."
There was no penalty or action taken on the field after the hit.
"My parents shouldn't have to watch my game and worry about me dying on the football field as a result of these head to head collisions," said Miller.
Miller is doing better and he may play at this Saturday's game. Miller said he would comment after that.
Football Quebec said it would comment after a decision on possible sanctions, which is expected soon.
The RSEQ representing Quebec student sports said they're investigating and they have to make decisions based on "objective elements."
U SPORTS Canada said in an email to CJAD 800 News that they only manage the semi-finals and the final of the University Football National Championship and that regular season games are run and regulated by the conferences.
