Montreal shelters said there'd be space for any homeless person in need Friday night.
The deep freeze set in for another night, but not all homeless people seek shelter inside.
As to why some homeless people don't go inside, those who work with them point to mental illness or because they disgree with rules.
But on frigidly cold nights, they're encouraged to stay inside.
CTV's Tanya Krywiak reported when it's extremely cold, the Old Brewery Mission is on standby, that no is turned away.
"In fact, the shelters work together to make sure there's space for anyone who needs it. Police officers also do spot checks and refer people to the shelters. The Old Brewery Mission also has a shuttle bus that brings the people to the shelters and it also provides a warm place" said Krywiak.
"It will circulate through the streets of Montreal, go to places where some homeless people tend to congregate, and if there are people who, for one reason or another, haven't decided to come to us we'll open the door to the bus and offer them a place to get warm inside the bus. We hope that once inside the bus they'll say this is better then being cold and then they'll come to the mission," Mission executive director Matthew Pearce told CTV.
The Mission is also looking for winter gear for the homeless, including donations of coats, boots, socks, and hats.
