A moose wandered around the town of Markham, Ontario north of Toronto for hours Friday, causing quite the commotion.
The 2 year old male was spotted dodging cars in traffic, hopping a fence and running across several runways at Buttonville Airport, and at one point was even travelling through a residential area.
Animal services were called in and Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources set out to tranquilize the moose and move him to a safer area.
Eric Cole with the Toronto Zoo tells CTV using a tranquilizer would have to wait until the moose had settled down. Jolanta Kowalski with the Ministry agrees, with officials aiming to funnel the animal into a green space without using a tranquilizer if possible.
Kowalski suggests the fact that moose mate around this time of year may have played a role in this particular animal's venture into civilization.
A section of Highway 404 in Markham had to be shut down for several hours Friday due to safety concerns after it appeared the moose would venture onto the road.
The moose eventually appeared to return to a wooded area away from civilization, though officials continue to monitor its travels.
