U.S. President Donald Trump's temporary ban on refugees and immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries is being denounced by many, including the American Gold Star father who gave an impassioned speech about the proposed ban during last year's U.S. election campaign.
Khizr Khan's son was killed by a suicide bomber in Iraq. He tells CTV's Question Period Host Evan Soloman that the U.S. President has a lot to learn from how Canada treats immigrants.
"Our Canadian friends call their immigrants as "new Canadians". These 2 words speak volumes of how these resourceful, contributing members of our community are treated, are looked at,” he said “To the Trump administration I say this: look to the north. Learn to take advantage of the assets that these immigrants bring.”
Khan argues the ban is unconstitutional and will only make America more of a target for terrorism.
