A town hall meeting in Rigaud, west of Montreal, generated a lot of interest Monday night.
Residents are upset over proposed tax hikes that could reach as much as 10 percent.
The Mayor cancelled a vote scheduled for Monday on the proposed budget and says he will defer any tax increases for now and review the budget to see if any cuts can be made to soften the blow.
This resident tells CTV Montreal that the increased tax burden is too much for the many homeowners who were hard hit by last spring's floods.
"If the flood situation caused extra costs to the city they should be resolved by the city, not by the owners. We are victims of flooding and we have to pay," says Yvon Mathieu.
