The rapidly accumulating snow is making an absolute mess of the Tuesday evening rush hour.
Just before 4 p.m. Tuesday, a pileup on Highway 10 west near Magog involved more than 50 vehicles. One man, Kevin Desjardins-Jean, captured just how messy the scene was and posted a video on Facebook that's quickly attaining viral status.
As the rush hour began, provincial police have been reporting dozens of pileups and fender-benders across southwestern Quebec, including a couple off the western tip of Montreal Island — Highway 20 shut down in both directions between Riviere-Beaudette and 69th Avenue in St. Zotique, and a stretch of Highway 40 west is shut down at kilometre 22 in St. Lazare.
Further west, dozens of vehicles, including at least one carrying hazardous materials, got involved in an accident near Kingston, shutting the 401 down in both directions.
Provincial police are once again urging caution on the roads, calling on motorists to keep their speed down, and to keep a safe distance between yourself and other cars.
The storm is expected to bring about 25 centimetres of snow to the Montreal area, while the Townships could see anywhere from 30 to 60 centimetres.
All of that snow is expected to be blown around by wind gusts of up to 60 kilometres an hour, making travel especially difficult.
Late Tuesday afternoon, you had a better-than-average chance of having your flight cancelled if you had to leave Trudeau airport on Tuesday night. Check the flight boards here.
