As the city's heatwave comes to an end just in time for the weekend, Saturday will be the start of something new for Montrealers (spoilers, it's more road work headaches).
On top of the regular weekend road closures comes a new round of long term closures through the Turcot Interchange.
The Sherbrooke St. entrance to Highway 15 will be closed until September, while the Sherbrooke St. Exit from the Decarie Express way will be closed until October. The alternative will be to exit at Cote-St-Luc/Queen Mary.
The 15 North will also go down to one lane between Turcot and the N.D.G. Tunnel until later in the fall, as will the ramp connecting Highway 20 and the Ville Marie express way to the 15.
"We're going to see a very, very heavy impact for people trying to get off [Decarie Expressway] around the Cote-St-Luc road area because you won't be able to get off at Sherbrooke," said traffic expert Rick Lekner. "Most people will move to the next closest exit, which is Cote-St-Luc/Decaire which can't handle the traffic it does now."
"If you're trying to get onto Decaire [north] from the service road you can't get on at Sherbrooke, so you'll have to move all the way to Edouard Montpetit," Leckner said. "That's quite a hike for people trying to get on the Decarie Expressway northbound."
As for your regular closures:
Highway 15 north closed between Exit 63 (HW20 West) and the entrance for Édouard-Montpetit Blvd. from Friday 11:59 P.M. until Monday at 5:00 A.M.
The following ramps will be closed during the same period:
On Highway 20 the exit for Norman St. (Exit 61) will be off limits from Friday at 10:00 P.M. to Monday at 5:00 A.M.
The ongoing work around Highway 40 and Highway 13 will close the eastbound service road of the 40 between the ramp leading to the 13 south and the ramp for the northbound side of the highway overnight Saturday into Sunday.
The northbound 13 will be closed between Exit 3 (Cote-de-Liesse) and Henri-Bourassa overnight Sunday into Monday.
The Bonaventure Expressway (Highway 10) will be closed in both directions at Pierre-Dupuis starting Friday at 10:00 P.M. until Monday morning.
The Gaétan-Laberge exit (60) on the 15 south will be closed for a week starting Friday at 10:00 P.M.
Don't forget, the Loto-Québec fireworks at LaRonde get underway this weekend (with a tribute to ABBA) so the Jacques-Cartier Bridge will be closed in both directions Saturday night from 8:30 P.M. to 11:30 P.M.
