There are so many treasures to see when it comes to live entertainment... here are a few choices:
- Les Grands Ballets puts on holiday classic The Nutcracker, just kicked off at Place des Arts.
- Songs about smoked meat! Schwartz's the Musical, which was a smash hit in 2011, gets remounted as a reading with nearly the whole original cast at the Centaur this weekend, with musicians and writers George Bowser and Rick Blue.
- It's been 30 years since John McClane saved Christmas in Die Hard. An all-female cast will do a live reading of the quintessential Christmas action movie at MainLine Theatre. Proceeds go towards a fund with the Canadian Women's Foundation to help survivors of assault.
- Acerbic Christmas stories that will put a chill up your spine: Urban Tales continues at Centaur. And Old Stock continues at The Segal (good luck getting tickets!)
- Rad Dads celebrates Christmas with a laugh! Comics Walter Lyng and Reese Turner host a standup show at Friday at the Royal Canadian Legion on de Maisonneuve in NDG.
- And the weirdest thing I found this year is find is Trapped in Elon's Mansion. Last Christmas, a Montreal blogger got in a Twitter war a play with Elon Musk. So, in revenge, Joe MacNeil has scripted a cybercomedy about an incident this summer where rapper Azealia Banks got stuck in Musk's home. Written in iambic pentameter verse and first conceived as an inside joke between friends, the show has stirred up so much interest that have moved the reading of the show to a real venue, the Diving Bell, and have nearly sold out. Friday, 10pm.
