Several St-Hyacinthe Walmart employees were pressed into service as emergency mid-wives Monday after a customer went into labour while shopping.
Annick Lepage-Pichette was 39 weeks pregnant, about a week short of her due date, when her daughter decided it was time.
Lepage-Pichette says she started having strong contractions at around 11 a.m. and immediately called for help.
That triggered a so called Code White indicating a medical emergency.
The Journal de Montreal says several employees stepped up immediately.
One called 911, others grabbed sheets and pillows, from the bedding department to make her comfortable and to erect makeshift walls for privacy.
Three pushes later.... a 7.1 pound, healthy baby girl was born ....who was greeted with applause by both customers and staff.
The back story to all this is the fact that Lepage-Pichette has another child, who was born in an ambulance, because she wasn't able to make it to the hospital the first time either.
