A St. Henri woman got quite a surprise earlier this week when she tried to order a novelty cat bowl on Amazon Canada.
Jacinthe Cardin get the package delivered to her door on Monday. It was supposed to have been a cat bowl for her cat named George Michael, but instead, it was a stun gun — loaded and ready to use.
"My boyfriend and I, we didn't believe our eyes," Cardin told reporter Étienne Phénix at CJAD 800's sister station Énergie 94.3. "I looked right away to make sure that it was my package and not my neighbor's. But sure enough, it was mine, with my name and address on it."
Cardin says she was concerned at that moment that the package could have fallen into the hands of a teenager, or someone with some kind of malicious intent.
She paid $44.89 for the bowl, including shipping and handling and a currency conversion surcharge.
The stun gun she received, incidentally, is illegal in Canada — possessing or using the gun could, theoretically, lead to a 10-year prison term.
The gun is sold online by the St. Louis-based company Sabre for $24.99 U.S.
Cardin said she plans to visit her local police station Wednesday afternoon to turn the gun in. In the meantime, she's still waiting on an explanation from Amazon as to how her order got mixed up.
In a statement to CTV Montreal, Amazon Canada called it an unfortunate incident and said it was taking the matter very seriously to ensure it didn't happen again.
