A Brossard woman has filed a complaint with the Quebec Police Ethics Committee alleging a Longueuil police officer treated her abusively and with excessive force.
Karine Yagorin said a Longueuil police officer pulled her over August 11 asking for her licence and registration.
Yagorin said she handed the documents over and asked why she was being stopped and if the officer could speak to her in English so she could better understand what was happening.
She said the officer refused to comply with both requests.
"He seemed so agitated, borderline aggressive, that I felt I should record the incident," said Yagorin, who reached out to yourstory@cjad.com.
That's when things started to go sideways.
"As I pressed the record button, the officer reached into the car and tried to grab my phone, hitting my face in the process, knocking the phone out of my hands," said Yagorin.
And that wasn't all.
"It just escalated to where I'm being dragged out of the car, put handcuffs on me with no explanation as to why I was being stopped," Yagorin recounted.
"It was a horrifying experience."
Yagorin claims it was only much later after she was dropped off at home that she found out after signing papers she didn't get a chance to read that she was charged with suspected impaired driving, which she denies.
"I've heard so many stories of people being in incidents like this and in this case, the officer actually used physical force that was absolutely inappropriate and I just think it has to stop," said Yagorin.
Longueuil police won't comment while the case is under review.
